Being a CEO is an enormous privilege. It is also a very demanding role. As CEO the needs of the organisation come first and that can create significant pressure on the leader. It can be a challenge to balance health, well-being and family needs with the demands of the job – all while performing at maximum potential. While the CEO is surrounded by people, there are very few that they can confide in and trust on the most difficult issues.

Since 2023 Joe has worked with over 15 Group or Divisional CEOs across Financial Services, Retail, Entertainment and the Public Sector. Companies include some of the World’s largest corporations and the UK’s household brand names. Joe’s CEO leadership development proposition consists of three key elements:

The first is advising. As a former CEO who remains very active in the business community, Joe offers practical advice and suggestions on live business and organisational issues. The second element is coaching and mentoring. To deliver this, Joe has developed a CEO leadership framework and supporting modules built around; a) inspiring people, b) driving decisions and c) personal renewal. This connects with his recent publication of a book entitled “52 Hard Learned Lessons for Leaders” available exclusively for CEOs.

The third element is making connections. Joe’s career across Financial Services, Retail, FMCG and Telco means that he has an extensive network across different industries and Government. He finds that helping CEOs make new and sometimes oblique connections is a greatly valued aspect of his work.

Joe takes a long-term approach, and his client relationships are generally multi-year. He meets in person with each CEO every 4-6 weeks for an in-depth discussion. This is supplemented by calls and messages between meetings. Emphasis is on building a trusted relationship which fosters constructive and creative dialogue as well as continued leadership development. Joe is careful to adapt his approach to fit the practical and development needs of each individual CEO.
